The Honda Civic Coupe is bigger and better than ever. The new look is matched by an interior with higher quality materials and more technology. New crash avoidance capabilities are also on the menu.

The sexy new exterior has sleek lines fronted by a raked-back A-pillar and windshield. The C-shaped LED taillights set off the arched trunk lid. The rounded triangular front windows are matched by quarter rear windows. The shorter front and rear overhangs contribute to its sportier appearance.

Performance

Like the sedan, the Civic Coupe offers a choice of two four-cylinder powertrains. Motor Trend writes that both are more powerful than the previous generation’s offerings. The two-liter i-VTEC cranks out 158 horsepower. The turbo I-4 kicks out 174 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The new chassis is made of ultra-high-strength steel. The improved rigidity, redesigned front struts, and new rear sub frame combine for better handling. Motor Trend praises the sportier ride. It also praised the available brake-torque vectoring system that lets the coupe hug the curves. Fuel economy varies with the different trim levels and transmission choices. The LX 6-speed manual is rated at 26 mpg city / 38 mpg highway*, while the EX-T trim is rated at 31 mpg city / 41 mpg highway*.

Interior

The new cabin is bigger thanks to the stretched frame. Engineers have added 8.4 cu.ft. to the total interior space, and they have increased rear seat legroom by five inches. That's some significant wiggle room. The two-tiered dashboard has been replaced by a simpler design. New high quality materials boost the premium feel. A soft-touch dashboard is complemented by softer door panels with real stitching. Contrasting inserts of beige and gray add to the contemporary design. Adding to the ambience, the cabin has been quieted with special air leak sealing. The acoustic windshield reduces wind resistance and further quiets the road. Thoroughly modern, standards include automatic climate control, an electronic parking brake, and special walk-away automatic door locks. The trunk is easily expanded with the split-fold rear bench. The LX-P edition adds push button start and a remote starter.

Features

The Civic Coupe has an open cockpit design. The new center meter on the instrument panel is a full-color TFT display. A multi-angle rearview mirror with a five-inch audio screen is standard. The advanced touchscreen is a seven-inch, high definition model with HD radio, SMS text messaging, and Pandora. New features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The navigation system adds more voice recognition technology, Song by Voice, and HD digital traffic.

Safety

The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe is the only car on the market to offer Honda Lane Watch technology. This unique camera is embedded in the passenger side mirror. Like the rearview camera, the image appears on the Honda’s dash screen. It is triggered when the driver uses the corresponding turn signal. Honda sensing also helps with the lane keeping assist system and adaptive cruise control. The ACC has a special low-speed follow feature that lets the Coupe driver enjoy a more relaxed drive in stop-and-go traffic. Other sensing features include a forward collision warning, a lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking, and road departure mitigation.
